This 8 x 8 journal page was just fun! It was supposed to be a self-portrait exercise but, frankly, working with my self-portrait does not inspire me to create :)
I decided to work the exercise with one of my own sketched and painted images and go from there.
The real inspiration, for this piece, was from a newspaper ad I found in our local newspaper. I loved the header quote; it instantly got my attention and led me to thinking. Admittedly, I inserted the quote, in this piece, with Photoshop as I was working with a brand-new Japanese ink pen I just got and, well; things went amuck so I had to take it out. I will definitely need some practice with the ink pen :)
This quote got me to thinking about my own life-saving devices and I narrowed it down to four things: 1. family, 2. good health 3. friends, 4. art
We are all human and there are times when we must tap into our life-saving devices. I am thankful for all of mine.
I'd love to read some of your life-saving devices when you leave a comment.
Hope you are all enjoying your weekend.
Loving thoughts to all for Valentine's Day!

beautiful once again marilyn! Love it! Thanks for the advice about image transfer! I may just email you sometime with questions! :)
I like your list too! Mine would be similar! :)
This is such a fun page. I love her tiny wings on her shoulders. Your four life saving devices are absolutely correct and I would add number 5. music! Music soothes my soul...always has and always will. Happy Valentine's weekend to you my dear...
Great piece of art, Marilyn!
Great page Marilyn and I love your Threads of Life too.
Art, music and friends and not just the two legged kind. I love my horse and dogs. Every day they do something to make me smile. :)
Hugs
I can't believe I have missed so much on your blog. This is a lovely, lovely piece and the four choices you have chosen really ARE life-saving!
all of the ones you mentioned + meditation...
Oh Marilyn, this page is such a beauty, and that face really speaks to me! I also like the quote but don´t think I´m saving any lives myself ...
Almost forgot to say that I love your blog header!
This art is so beautiful!
This is a beautiful, soulful piece of art! Love the text - it says so much! I agree with your list and would also add fur-friends and music and nature.
Beautiful page!! Your life-saving devices are on target, too. I would add Mocha, our cat.
I think I would have to second your selection of 4 life saving devices...makes you start thinking about these things (which is always a good thing, going within oneself for answers).
Self portraits dont inspire me either...but I love what the initial theme has inspired you to do.
Good luck with that ink pen!

I like your inspiration for this lovely piece. I'm thinking one of my lifesavers is to pause, be aware of my breathing, and say a prayer. Art is also surely high on my list . . . it takes me away.
This is a wonderful piece..I agree with your list and would add music and my sweet pets.
Marilyn, your work is always nothing less than stunning! This page is no exception! SO gorgeous!
Marilyn
another gorgeous piece from wonderful you! I love the beautiful colors and the nest is such an added bit of whimsy! Hope you are staying warm - we are supposed to hit 38 degrees today (I'm melting....melting) :) Happy Sunday m'dear!
In a way, all of your works are self portraits, Marilyn. Your personality and beauty are reflected in all of them... some of my life-saving devices: I would say ditto to your list and add sense of humor, (okay, and wine :>)
Stunning page Marilyn!
Beautiful page, Marilyn! Isn't it wonderful how the most simple thing can provide a ton of inspiration! Hugs, Terri xoxo
Fabulous journal page Marilyn. One of my life saving devices is your friendship as you never fail to bring me back to what I like most.
