Belle Jardiniere

This is a journal spread I worked on this weekend. It's layered with tons of crinkled tissue paper. I sketched the figure right over the crinkled tissue once it dried and painted over; I love the wrinkled, aged, effect of that! It was fun to paint over, too. Note: if you click on the picture, here, you can really see the tissue paper wrinkles.

I normally stay away from true green; don't know why but I decided to try it as I wanted to create a balance between the two pages. On the left side is one of my favorite tissue papers which I'm almost running out of and have searched and searched for it to no avail. I even went back to the place I originally bought it and the store is out of business. Oh well; I can keep it, here, in the journal as a memento. Plus; the small piece I have left, I'll scan into my computer. That will help, too, for the design.

I hope you all are enjoying your weekend; it is still quite warm here. We've had unbearable heat and humidity. Today is a little better, we even have a breeze, after some violent thunder storms came through in the night - yikes! There's always a price for something isn't there? We paid a huge price for this lower humidity with the storms - they knocked down trees and power lines in some areas. It could have been worse; everyone is okay but any time we have this constant build up of humidity, we know we're going to eventually get these storms. So; I'm going to enjoy this less-humid day as much as I can because the humidity will be climbing back again this week.

Thinking of you all, hope your upcoming week is safe and happy!

Much love......................................Marilyn xxoo

Your art is just blossoming, Marilyn, and yes I love using the tissue paper too. It gives the art a stucco look--I love that.
P.S. Those storms can be scary--glad to hear that everything is okay.
P.S.P.S.
Love your header!

Marilyn, These pages are really incredible!! My next journal is going to be all about the different Art Journal techniques and when I come to do the crinkled tissue paper effect I will most definitely pay tribute to you and have your name intertwined within the page. These look fabulous....WOW!!!

Your journal pages are so lovely, I enjoy seeing your wonderful work.
Can you tell me what type of journal paper i would need to do this type of work in, I find that the paper wrinkles and buckles if I paint or glue.

I love your true green here, and the texture gives it that antique affect. Hot and humid here too, but a bit of a livable breeze today. xox Corrine

I love the texture of the tissue paper, but I also love the lovely lady you have drawn. For some reason, I thought you drew the flowers on the left and was surprised to read it was tissue paper.

As always, I'm surprised each time I come to your blog. This time it was by the new blog banner. A lovely addition.

No storms in sight for us this week. Lots of stifling heat and humidity, too. We have been under a heat warning for two days with heat indexes around 110. Gotta love this summer. Just glad you are safe.

I love how the green leaves transition into the larger mass of green on the next page. Draws attention to the lovely figure- and wow love the tissue paper effects- I'm inspired to use tissue and decorative napkins again in my journal work. Beautiful art Marilyn!
