Here is another journal spread that I recently created. I'm beginning to understand and enjoy the "Art of Play". Journaling has helped me come to terms with this as more and more I'm realizing that my journals are for, me, and me alone. My art journal doesn't come with any deadlines - just free play for me and experimenting with all the stuff that I have around me in my art area (art "area" will be another subject for another time). I also love to write down my thoughts, first, on my journal pages for a couple of reasons. First; most of what I want to say is quite personal and I just love to get the feelings out then I can proceed with the art work. Funny......when I go through my journal pages, I know instantly what I was feeling or saying on that given day just by looking at the art I created. Secondly; my handwriting is terrible! It is - I can print, neatly, but I just don't feel it's attractive "journal fodder" :). Someday a calligraphy class :)
I wish you all a safe, happy, artful upcoming weekend! Happy Father's Day to all the men who are super role models, caring, nurturing, and responsible, who help and have helped our children become the good people they are!
Thank you, all, for your visits, here, and your continued positive feedback, friendships and support!
Much love......................Marilyn xxoo

Marilyn, the title of this blog post speaks to me. I love the idea of play - I'm much too serious about work. I love that journals are simply a creative outlet for personal expression. I'll try your idea of writing one day. Like you, I find that journal pages anchor my memory so when I revisit them, the state of mind and emotion I was in rushes back to my awareness.
Beautiful pages Marilyn, and I love to go back and visit my journals to. But for some reason I still worry about the outcome. I need to let that go but its easier said then done.
beautifully done marilyn! i really love what you've created on these journal pages!
Hi Marilyn,
Love looking at your recent journal page posts of your "free play". I have started my first journal a few weeks ago- also just playing, experimenting with colors etc and having the very best time. Your house stamp is wonderful. Wondering how you made the white trees in your recent post? With all of the recent chatter on using "other's materials" and copyright issues in many bloggers' posts- i've begun to use my own materials exclusively - so now always looking for interesting non copyrighted materials to work with. Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting. Always puts a smile on my face. Have a wonderful weekend- and enjoy Sophie every second of every day!!

The Art of Play is a fabulous title which goes hand in hand with a fabulous post. Your artwork is incredible, there is such vitality.
Reading what you say that this is for you alone, no compromising, no deadlines, sometimes we need to remember that, to create purely for the reason of creating.

P.S. Thank You so much for your comment on the decorative pillow I made for my friend. Working with fabric, in my mind, is slightly outwith my comfort zone but I love it so much.
Wingeg hearts are among my favorite symbols. I totally agree with all you have said about the process of art journaling. except the part about your handwriting. bad is the new good in handwriting, don't you know that??
okay that was winged. not wingeg.
i write out my thoughts too... and then obscure it with my work, like you, I always remember what I was going through, the images trigger the memory ....
These pages are so pretty. I love all the different textures you were able to get. I think I need to take a lesson here too and play a bit more with my art. :) Nan
Marilyn, I love the fact that you were learning to play with your journals....that they were for you and you only and that you write first then paint.......
This is big confirmation to me today of just the thoughts I have been having.....Thank you.....
I hope you have a wonderful weekend....
Hugs and blessings,
Nancy
Play is what it's all about and you have been doing some fantastic playing lately. Love the winged heart! xox Corrine
Now thats what I'm talking about!!! Love your discovery and your visual expression.
WONDERFUL!
I love what you are doing in your journal! I am doing a "garden" journal, that has turned into sort of a diary/art journal! Now, I include all sorts of stuff in it, besides gardening....and it is so fun to go back and read them. Ahhh the memories!
Marilyn, your pages always look like they come so easy...as if they spilled out of you onto paper! I have a hard time journaling, but you are a wonderful inspiration with your beautiful work...these are gorgeous!
funny how many of us are not fond of our handwriting...it would be interesting to hear stats on that...Mr M was taught by nuns and his writing is beautiful = Palmer Method!
Your pages are splendid...I so agree that what we create IS for us...if others enjoy it well that's a bonus...but we create because we must...art helps me breathe
So happy that you share your creativity with us M...it is always delightful and inspiring!
Happiest of June weekends to you and yours!

Oh my goodness Marilyn, you have done it again! love these! I am a sucker for hearts and I love what you have done with them especially the one with wings! :)
Keep playing, Marilyn -- the results are stunning!

Love your journals!
Both of your hearts are gorgeous. You look like you WERE playing, and I can only imagine your thoughts at the time you made these pages. I have horrible handwriting, too. Wasn't like that a few years ago, but now I can barely read what I write.
