Hi, my name is Marilyn and I'm an "artaholic"-lol! I've come to the conclusion that I am addicted to art! I cannot get enough and the learning process is just as addicting. As I have posted, previously, I signed up for Pam Carriker's Journal 365 Workshop through Creative Workshops. I am enjoying this class SO much that I decided to hop on her Pursuing Portraits, too! Pam's relaxing teaching style made me think that, perhaps, her approach to portraits might just help me, too. So; I started today really diving into her lessons. The pictures, here, are a result of the first two lessons of the Pursuing Portraits. One is a "journaling self-portrait" exercise that I was really nervous, about, but her technique, for this, is brilliant and once I started, I didn't hold back at all. The portrait had to be from a photo of ourselves and this one is a photo, of me, from a few years back without glasses. There was NO way I was going to tackle glasses. The surrounding areas of this exercise, had to be with images, etc. that we find personally meaningful.
The other photo is what I created from a lesson sketching our portrait, beginning painting and then working on the background with acrylics, stamping, collage if we want - whatever we chose to do. There's much more to come on painting the portraits but I just am enjoying what we've learned so far!
I'm so happy I decided to join in on the Pursuing Portraits class, too. It really works, side-by-side with the Journal 365 class and I can feel myself, already, loosening up with sketching faces. Pam's approach is amazingly freeing!
I do not want a "12-step program" for my addiction. :) Art rules!
Art means many things, to me, and I discovered it rather late, in my life, but I like to look at it that it was waiting for me all along; to enter my life at just the right moment! I'm so thankful it did.
What does your art mean to you? I'd love to read your thoughts.
Have a great beginning to this week, be safe and may you get lots of artful time in for yourself.
Thank you for all of your feedback and support; the wings you've provided me are getting stronger and stronger - I'm staying up in the air a lot longer :)
Much love to all..........................Marilyn xxoo

Definitely better late than never M!!!
What you're creating is fabulous and growing all the time with the aid of talented teachers!
Art Saves Lives is a great slogan I've seen and it is so true!
Art is part of my therapy, it helps me feel balanced and complete ... that said I need to get out of the garden and back in my studio! ;)
Both of these canvases are wonderful, each in their own special way! Super!!!

Art is DEFINITELY my therapy -- I can go into the studio when I'm tired, grumpy, or bored, and find healing in the fondling of the fabric. We are kindred souls, my friend, as well as birthday twins.
Beautiful work -- I knew that it was you in the piece before I even read the description!

Marilyn thank you so much for the kind and caring comments on my post yesterday. I have missed your beautiful art for the past fews days. I love your portrait you have done (without the glasses). Being an art addict is a good thing and should be continued. Happy painting...
some addictions are GOOD!
Look how your growing, Marilyn. And I love that it doesn't matter what age you are, you still can discover so much through art. I never really understood what the term art therapy meant, but now I do. Can you imagine not having this outlet?!
My name is Elizabeth and I'm an art addict. I only wish I could be as good at this craft as you. You make it look so easy and so enjoyable, especially now that you have found your art "voice." The collage backgrounds are equally mesmerizing. The top one holds so much meaning.
My art has started to give me pleasure, contacts with others who get me, and the confidence to reach for the next level. Thanks, too from you, for always being so supportive of my projects.
Marilyn, I love your pieces here! JUST wonderful and you have taken on more with Pam's classes! Neat!!!!!!!
Art, is a personal journey! I feel that at times it is sooooo positive, helping me with a creative and fun release of the feelings and artful thoughts within....expressed outwardly.... and then there are times that I actually feel that the lack of time FOR art, makes it pressure filled and sad for me.
Knowing that responsibility to family, work, home, friends and life....is where my artwork finds it's expression....for me...so they must both co-exists as time allows! And I need to learn to forgive myself for not being able to devote the time I wish I could to my art-a-diction!! :0) And be happy with the bits of joy I get when I can!
Also, enjoying OTHER's adventures is great fun for me.....which is why seeing your artwork and your growth from classes is enlightening!
Thanks for always sharing Marilyn!
Hugs,Patti
Holy Bat Girl - you knocked another out of the ball park. I'm impressed as all of the other comments that go before. Love these. I too came by art later on and am so loving it. I admit I'm addicted to it.... LOL. Great post, Marilyn.
I don't know what to say, but I'll try....you seem to capture the essence in your pieces that so many of us feel as artists, emotion, love, caring, TRUTH, meaning. I am not sure how you do it, but it is raw and real, and I admire you beyond belief!
Great job Marilyn! You go!! There is nothing wrong from getting a high from art. I can't wait to see what is next.
Well I must admit it too,I'm an art addict too.LOL I took pams portrait class too,I really enjoyed it. Your girl is beautiful and I love your journal page.Have fun in class.

wow, great portrait marilyn, you never cease to amaze me. art is a positive addiction, unless you spend as much money as I do on supplies :o)
OMG!!! I love this self portrait of you... And all the exhibits you are in this year... you are amazing... Hugs... Lo
Stunning work, Marilyn!! Love the self-portrait/journaling piece!! So glad to hear that your classes with Pam are going so well!!
I have a very demanding & stressful job, so I def need something to help me relax at the end of the week. And art, or in my case scrapping/crafting, is what keeps me sane. It's def my way to de-stress!!
